This is especially true if you had an X-ray or MRI, and this has ruled out the obvious causes like a hernia or a ruptured disc. If you’re like us and many others, you may have a recurring low grade inflammation between your vertebrae. This could be either caused by arthritis or something else. Hard to spot on an X-ray or even MRI, but still very much painful and limiting.

We have not found a way to get rid of the pain completely. However, we have found a strategy that lets us to do all the things we want to do with only a minimum of pain.

5 Key parts of the strategy to lower backpain relief

  1. Learn how to stand up without pain (from a chair, couch or bed)
  2. Two minute “Knee Rolls”  to improve mobility in the morning – a very straightforward back exercise that can be done on your back, in bed
  3. Short but high intensity exercise at least twice a week – Interval running works best for us.
  4. Self-medicate to kill lower backpain without overdoing it. Combat both soreness and inflammation. This ensures you are able to keep moving and do the other
  5. Improve your mattress – get something of quality, firm but comfortable

Results – before and after

Before we found this strategy, we were stuck for years in a vicious cycle of immobility. Too sore to really move. Unable to do simple chores in the house and garden (dishwasher or weeds anyone?). Not able to lose weight with exercise because of the soreness, and taking way too many pain killers.

With the strategy in place, for the last 5 years we’ve been able to live an -almost- normal life. There is still occasional soreness. We still can’t weed the garden without paying the price the next day. However, we can exercise and stay in shape, and we are without pain most of the time now. This strategy is easy to implement and may help you too.
